I am opening this thread to allow you all to post questions you may have about the World War II project you are currently working on in my class.  Feel free to respond to others questions if you feel confident that you know the answer.  I appreciate all the hard work you are all putting into these projects.  Way to go Purple Team!!

Hey Kiddos,

A couple of things:

You will probably have to check the public library as our school library doesn't have many resources.

You can also use google books. Go to google.com and in the search bar, type google books. You will have to type in the subject you are searching for.

Hi Amber,

Yes, your first page is the title page. If you go to class documents you can download the sample paper and delete my information and include your own. The second page has the title centered at the top and you start typing your information under that.

First of all-

Ash, thanks so much for your answers to others, You Rock!

Yes, tomorrow the three sources, either printed out or the information for the references are due (author, publisher, date published, url, city, state). If you can print out the sources that would be best, if you can't you will need to gather the information directly from the website.

The ONLY thing due tomorrow is: your three sources-two web sources and one book source.

Amica-you need to do the research for your topic. When you find two web sources and one book source, you write down all the information you need for your reference page. I hope this helps.

Don't forget that I am offering my help after school. I had about 30 kids after school today who took advantage of the additional support. If you need the help, you need to come in. I also have some 6th and 7th grade tutors who are also providing help and support so there is plenty of help to go around.

I know this seems like a lot of work, but remember that you were given over two weeks to complete this. I have offered support in various different ways. There will be no extensions given. Please use your time wisely and ask questions if you don't understand. Good Luck! Hope you are all ready for tomorrow.

In order to use google books you do the following:

1. Go to google.com
2. Type in google books
3. Put your topic in the search bar
4. Find a book you like
5. Click on the book picture
6. Click on about book
7. Take down info needed for reference

I trying to find a source on holocaust diseases and every time i try to search for something new it brings up the same websites that don't have the information i need and it gets fustrating so how am i suppost to find good online sources.

The problem may be that it was saved under the new Word format. I have resaved the paper in an RTF format so anybody should be able to access the documents now. Thanks for letting me know about your inability to open up the document. Please let me know if you still can't access the papers.

Max,

Use different search engines. Some to use include: Bing, MSN, Yahoo, Google.

You will also want to change the words you are using to search. Some different searches to try include: Holocaust diseases, concentration camps diseases, typhus, scabies, malnourishment, concentration camp illnesses, death during the holocaust.

hahaha. I found a book about 8 survivors from the holocaust. It tells about everything that happened to them!!!

I don't know any thing about the paperbag project. but i do know that your ECR is supposed to be about the topic that you either chose or the topic that you were assigned because you didn't choose a topic. hope that helps!

We are doing a presentation project that includes writing an ECR over different topics about World War II. I will have you start by thinking about what you might want to research and present on (some examples are concentration camps, hitler, nazis).

Hi Jazzmine,

I know that there is a lot to this project and I'm glad you found the due dates. If you open up the research notes, you can increase the size of the page by changing the view size-either up at the top of the toolbar or down at the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Hope this helps.

Im not sure if this helps but I read an article on something and it said stuff like,
About 2,000 children came to the Netherlands with the Kindertransporte between ect...
I think it means like a group that took in jewish children (maybe)? Im not sure but thats more of something about the backround I think.

Emri, I completely missed your quetion-sorry- below is a further description on what it was all about.

Kindertransport (also Refugee Children Movement or "RCM'") is the name given to the rescue mission that took place nine months prior to the outbreak of World War II. The United Kingdom took in nearly 10,000 predominantly Jewish children from Nazi Germany, and the occupied territories of Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland and the Free City of Danzig. The children were placed in British foster homes, hostels, and farms.

Most of the rescued children survived the war.

You also pretty much have the correct order of how to staple the final report. I will give you all specific guidelines on that on Monday.

Kayle,

You can only do the one topic that you requested and that was assigned to you. Both those topics cannot be done in one ECR, it would be too difficult to do.

The font needs to be 12 point Times New Roman. All of these guidelines are in the paper requirements that I gave to you guys in class.

on your last question,u dont have to put ALL ur ECR info on your project. It's nice to put some of it on there though. For example:I put that Hitler was a vegetarian on my project,but I didn't put it in my ECR. On my ECR, I put one of the ways Hitler killed people,but I didn't put that same way on my project......Ur project and ECR just have to be on the same topic and have SOME same info
(I hope this is right!!!!!!!!hehehe)

Kayla, you know if a site is reliable by being able to find contact information, creation date and you want to read the information to make sure the author does not have any reason to specifically highlight one side or the other. Do not use blogs or personal sites.

Emri-either spelling is fine. The e was eventually dropped, but they are both correct. You alphabetize your reference page by the first line in your source-this would either be the authors last name or the name of the site.

Amber-you staple your title page and reference page to your second draft.

Hi Delaney,

Yes, I'm sorry, those meetings have been creeping up on us-so many lately. I think your topic was on Anne Franks family tree? Anyway, what I would do to further expand what you are doing is in your first paragraph discuss Anne Frank (who she was, what happened to her), in the second paragraph I think you can easily detail the concentration camps she was sent to and the final paragraph you can discuss the disease she died from. So your thesis points would be-who was Anne Frank, what the camps she was taken to were like, and what she died from.

Hi Dugan,

Yes, The History Channel is a great resource. I'm not surprised that you didn't find the author, it's usually hard to find that on those type of sites. You won't include an author name, you will put: The History Channel as the first entry for your reference.

Honestly, when it comes do doing your powerpoint and ECR the most important thing is that you have the outline done first and know what your three thesis points will be. Once you have that completed it really shouldn't make a difference which one you do first. Both of them will help you evaluate your information and will help in creating either part of the project.

The presentation needs to be 3-5 minutes long. I'm not sure what you mean by "show how we presented our presentation." Can you clairfy that so that I may be able give you an answer on that?

No, you don't write an ECR for each source. You are writing one ECR. You need to fill out the research grid given in class (it can also e found under Class documents). You come up with three main points for your thesis statement. You then use your research to provide support for the three main points. The ECR is a regular 5 paragraph ECR. The paper outline can also be found under class documents. Hope this helps.

Hey Ashley.I'm not sure if this helps much,but just to make it simple,hand wright the plan on the plan paper mrs gamez gave us.you know,the plan with a bunch of squares.handwrighting the plan on that paper just makes it a lil' more simple. :)

To Dugan------I'm not positive whether this'll work or not, but try attaching the u tube file to the PowerPoint.if that doesn't work, then try dragging the video onto your PowerPoint. I don't know if it works,but it's worth a shot!

If you go onto youtube and type in "how to embed a video into PowerPoint" it will give you step by step directions on how to do it. This is the easiest way to "show" you as the video will give you directions along with a visual on how to do it.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, but I will give you an example of a hyperlink. If I put:
HITLER'S FAMILY
and so if I click on H in Hitler, it would go a fact that starts with an H. so that would continue with all the rest of the letters. If you dont get it still then I have a celebrety one on my computer file about a different topic. I can show you tomarrow on Tuesday during class when we are in the computer lab. Thanks!!!

Ash, That is only if you are specifically quoting any information from your source. For example: "Hitler was responsible for the deaths of many people, " (Smith, 2008). The sentence in quotes is a direct line taken from a source and the information in parentheses is the author or source name and the date. If you're not citing any sources, leave that out. You will delete that information on the sample page. Your ECR starts on page 2 after the title page. Hope this helps. Mrs. Gamez

To AJ: On the APA format, you must have a title page first of all. You also need a running head at the top of the title page. Your whole ECR needs to be double spaced as well. Also, at the top right corner of every page, you'll need your last name and the page number. For example, if I was on page one it'd look like this: Trainor-1 You will then need a reference page in Alphabetical order. Sorry, this is a little hard to explain! =) Hope this helps!

To Dugan: You can do your timeline however you want.it's better to do it on a presentation than on an ECR, but you can do either. Also, if you don't want to present your timeline or put it in your ECR, you can jut put a timeline of your topic on a peice of paper and hand it in with the rest of your stuff. Hope this helps! :)

TO ASHLEY You can do your timeline however you want. Your timeline topic would obviously be on your subject.like when it happened and the process of it all. I believe you do the format your own way. You may want to put it on a peice of paper. Or maybe you want to put all the different things on a peice of paper and cut it into strips. It doesn't matter.

To anyone STILL confused on the time line. Yes, there is a timeline due. If you have not turned it in already, then you are still losing points but may turn it in as soon as possible. Timelines include as much information as necessary on your project topic, and the dates should be included. After all, it's a TIME line.
